Human beings need nature in order to flourish. Connecting to nature is increasingly difficult for contemporary children who live primarily in urban areas. As Maria Montessori advocated, children must be put in contact with the earth and an emotional bond created to foster attitudes favorable to the natural environment. Using gardening for educational purposes is a great tool.
